UNDERSTANDING P432 Half Hourly Settlement

Understanding P432: What You Need to Know

P432 heralds a significant change in how Current Transformer (CT) Advanced meters are managed for settlement and billing. This regulation mandates the treatment of all CT meters as Half Hourly (HH), ensuring precise billing for organizations utilizing Non-Half Hourly (NHH) CT meters.

P432 has recently been announced by Elexon (Owned by National Grid Electricity System Operator) and will take effect from April 2024. This affects any organization that is using a Non-Half Hourly (NHH) CT meter.

P432 represents a move to ensure all Current Transformer (CT) Advanced meters are treated as Half Hourly (HH) for settlement and billing to ensure all organizations are billed accurately. If your business currently has a Non-Half Hourly (NHH) CT meter, it will require updating by March 2026 to comply with this new legislation.

A timeline of the published deadlines are as follows:

April 1, 2024: This marks the date by which all new CT connections must be settled on a Half Hourly basis. Organisations initiating new connections need to ensure they adhere to this requirement from the outset.

April 15, 2024: P432 officially kicks in for all existing NHH CT meters. From this date forward, organisations using such meters will need to adjust their processes to comply with the new regulation.

March 2026: The deadline looms for all NHH CT meters to transition to Half Hourly settlement. By March 2026, every organisation utilising NHH CT meters must have made the switch to HH settlement to remain compliant with P432.

Why the Shift Matters

Transitioning all CT meters to HH settlement fosters fairness and accuracy in energy billing. Granular data from HH settlement enables precise billing, reflecting actual energy consumption patterns, thus promoting equitable billing practices.

Opportunities Amidst Compliance

Compliance with P432 isn't merely regulatory; it's a chance for optimisation. HH settlement offers detailed insights into energy usage, empowering businesses to identify inefficiencies, optimise consumption, and drive cost reductions.

Navigating the Transition

Transitioning to HH settlement may pose challenges, requiring meticulous planning and possibly investment in new metering infrastructure. Organizations must assess current setups, anticipate implications, and develop comprehensive transition plans.

Sustaining Compliance and Optimization

Ongoing monitoring and management of energy usage post-compliance are crucial. HH settlement data informs strategic decisions on energy efficiency, sustainability, and cost optimization, ensuring continued benefits.

Seize the Opportunity

P432 marks a significant regulatory shift impacting NHH CT meter users. Proactive compliance not only meets regulatory demands but also unlocks avenues for sustainable energy management and cost savings.

Don't wait until the last minute to ensure compliance with P432.
